Government House, Bermuda, Official residence on Langton Hill, Pembroke, Bermuda

Government House on Langton Hill in Pembroke serves as the official residence of the Governor and hosts ceremonial functions. It contains more than 30 rooms including formal dining and drawing rooms with glass sun terraces set across approximately 33 acres of grounds.

Scottish architect William Hay designed this building in 1892, replacing an earlier Mount Langton residence that had served since 1815. The Renaissance Revival style reflects the architectural traditions of the period.

The residence displays rotating collections of work by local artists throughout its rooms. Visitors encounter artistic expressions from different periods of Bermudian creativity.

Access to the residence is limited and primarily available during ceremonial functions and special occasions. It is advisable to check ahead since regular public visits are not always possible.

Three historical cannons stand at the front entrance, accompanied by palms planted by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 1975. These plants remain distinctive features of the main entrance today.
