The Leadmill

The Leadmill is housed in a former flour mill building with capacity for around 900 people, featuring multiple performance spaces arranged across different levels. The layout allows several events to happen simultaneously, and visitors can explore different rooms each with its own character and sound system.

The venue was established in 1980 in a building that previously housed the Esquire club, where Jimi Hendrix performed during the 1960s. This transformation marked the shift from a legendary music spot into a community-focused cultural center that would grow into a major Sheffield institution.

The venue hosts a wide range of performances from live music to comedy and drag shows throughout the year, creating a space where different artistic communities gather. Visitors experience this diversity directly as they move between event spaces.

The venue is centrally located in Sheffield and easy to reach on foot, by public transport, or by car with parking available nearby. Plan ahead by purchasing tickets online in advance, as events often fill up quickly and the space can become crowded during popular shows.

In 2017, the dance floor was replaced and pieces of the original flooring were sold as collectible items to dedicated patrons. This creative approach allowed longtime fans to take home a tangible memory from a place that had become special to them.
