Sheaf Square, Public square at Sheffield Station, United Kingdom
The square features a cascading water feature alongside a 90-meter steel sculpture that marks the entrance to Sheffield city center.
The area transformed from a car park into a pedestrian-centered space in 2006, winning the Project of the Year Award at the National Rail Awards.
The Cutting Edge Sculpture resulted from collaboration between Sheffield design team Si Applied and glass artist Keiko Mukaide, representing local steel industry.
The square connects directly to Sheffield Station and marks the start of the Gold Route that guides visitors through new developments to the city center.
The external structure of the steel sculpture weighs 29 tonnes and combines mirror polish on one side with matt finish on the other.
