Caves of Aruba

The Caves of Aruba comprise three main formations within a protected natural area. Quadirikiri Cave features two sunlit chambers, Fontein Cave displays mineral deposits and ancient drawings, while Huliba Cave is accessed through a distinctive heart-shaped entrance.

Fontein Cave preserves drawings from ancient Arawak peoples created between 2500 BC and 1000 AD. These markings document how early inhabitants used the space and demonstrated their connection to this place.

The caves hold a place in local stories, including tales of forbidden love that connected indigenous people to these spaces. These narratives show how the caves remain woven into the island's storytelling traditions.

The caves are accessible through a protected nature reserve and guided tours are recommended for safe exploration. Wear sturdy footwear and prepare for uneven terrain, as some areas can be slippery and require careful footing.

Huliba Cave contains natural limestone formations that visitors perceive as resembling the figure of the Virgin Mary. This unexpected likeness has made the site a place where people project their own interpretations onto the rock structures.
