Aldershot Observatory, Astronomical observatory in Aldershot, England

The circular red-brick building with a domed roof contains an 8-inch refracting telescope mounted on an equatorial pillar with counterweight clockwork drive mechanism.

Aviation pioneer Patrick Young Alexander gifted this observatory and telescope to the British Army, leading to its construction and official opening in December 1906.

The Farnham Astronomical Society maintains the facility and organizes regular events for the public to learn about celestial observation and astronomical phenomena.

Located at coordinates 51.258412, -0.762339, the Grade II listed observatory requires advance arrangements through the Farnham Astronomical Society for most visits.

The telescope operates through a mechanical clockwork drive system that functions for two hours before requiring manual rewinding for continued astronomical tracking.
