Proposed Bakerloo line extension, Railway extension project in South London, United Kingdom.
The Proposed Bakerloo line extension is a planned underground railway project in South London connecting Elephant & Castle to Lewisham through two new stations. The route incorporates Burgess Park and Old Kent Road as new stops, while also converting an existing rail line to extend service further south to Beckenham Junction.
Plans for southward expansion of the Bakerloo line originated in 1913 with a proposal to reach Camberwell. Transport for London revived formal planning for this extension in the late 2000s, building on earlier concepts to develop the current proposal.
The extension aims to transform South London's connectivity by introducing underground services to areas currently dependent on surface transportation methods.
Construction is expected to start around 2030 with completion targeted for 2040. Visitors and local residents should expect disruptions to surface transport in the affected areas during the building phase.
The project includes conversion of the Hayes National Rail line to London Underground operation, extending service to Beckenham Junction.
