Eglinton Country Park, Country park in North Ayrshire, Scotland.
Eglinton Country Park is a 400-hectare park in North Ayrshire featuring woodlands, walking trails, and the Lugton Water river cutting through its varied terrain. The landscape shifts between open spaces and thicker tree-covered areas, creating distinct zones throughout the grounds.
The land was owned by the Earls of Eglinton and Winton for over 600 years. The castle ruins that remain today are evidence of their extended control over these estates.
The park once hosted the 1839 Eglinton Tournament, an elaborate medieval jousting spectacle organized by the 13th Earl of Eglinton. This grand event attracted spectators from across the region and remains part of local memory today.
The park features a visitor center, cafe, and camping area with 50 pitches available for guests. Fishing, cycling, and horse riding are among the activities you can pursue while exploring the grounds.
Within the park stands the Rackets Hall, the oldest surviving racquet court in the world. Built shortly after 1839, it represents a rare piece of sporting history preserved on the grounds.
