Glasgow Golf Club, Golf club in East Dunbartonshire, United Kingdom.
Glasgow Golf Club is a private golf club in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, with a second course called Gailes Links located near Irvine on the Ayrshire coast. The two courses are very different in character: the Killermont course follows the River Kelvin through tree-lined fairways, while Gailes is an open links layout by the sea.
The club was founded in 1787, making it the oldest golf club in the west of Scotland. After moving through several locations over the following decades, it settled at its current Killermont site in 1904.
The Killermont course sits in a residential area on the edge of Glasgow, which gives it a different feel from courses set deep in the countryside. Players move through mature trees and along the River Kelvin, which acts as a natural boundary for several holes.
The Killermont course is mainly for members, while Gailes Links is more open to visiting players who book in advance. Contacting the club before you travel is the best way to find out what access is available and what to bring.
The clubhouse at Killermont is a Georgian mansion built in 1805, originally constructed as a private home rather than a sporting venue. The club acquired it along with the surrounding land and has used it as its base ever since.
