Lovely Seat

Lovely Seat is a mountain summit in Yorkshire Dales National Park positioned between Wensleydale and Swaledale valleys. The peak rises to approximately 675 meters and features a distinctive stone chair structure at its summit.

The summit takes its name from the Old Norse term Lunasett, meaning moon pasture, a name still used by Abbotside residents. This naming tradition reflects the long history of settlement and land use in this highland region.

The summit is a familiar landmark for walkers across the region and serves as a stopping point on various routes through the dales. Visitors often pause here to take in the views before continuing their journeys.

The summit is accessible via Buttertubs Pass, where a fence line helps with navigation during poor weather. This guiding feature makes the route easier to follow in difficult conditions.

Approximately 300 meters west of the main peak stands a collection of stone cairns visible from a distance. These older markers show how walkers and shepherds have long used this location.
