Heathrow Terminal 1, Airport terminal in Heathrow, England
Heathrow Terminal 1 was an airport terminal spanning multiple levels with check-in desks, baggage facilities, and departure gates spread across its corridors. The building was organized into distinct zones for passenger processing, flight operations, and ground support activities.
The terminal opened in 1969 as the largest airport terminal in western Europe at that time and served as a major hub for decades. It eventually closed in 2015 as operations shifted to newer facilities.
British Airways and British Midland International operated the majority of domestic flights from Terminal 1 until the introduction of Terminal 5.
The building was accessible via the London Underground, Heathrow Express rail service, and the M4 motorway connection. Travelers had multiple transport options to reach central London or other destinations.
After closure, the original building was retained and repurposed as a training facility for emergency services conducting specialized rescue exercises. This gave the structure a second life beyond its decades of passenger operations.
