Overleigh Lodge, Grade II listed gatehouse in Handbridge, Chester, United Kingdom.
Overleigh Lodge is a T-shaped gatehouse built from sandstone and brick with a distinctive circular stair turret topped by a pointed roof. Mullioned windows are set throughout the structure, creating a clear pattern across its facade.
Robert William Edis designed this gatehouse in 1893 for the 1st Duke of Westminster as part of the Chester Approach to Eaton Hall. The building served as the formal entrance marking the arrival at the larger estate.
The lodge displays yellow sandstone at its base and red brick with blue patterned details above, showing typical Victorian building choices of the era. These materials and their arrangement create a distinctive appearance that visitors can see as they approach the entrance.
The lodge sits along Duke's Drive at the start of the Eaton Hall estate approach and remains visible from the public area. Keep in mind this is private property, so views are best appreciated from the entrance drive.
The building contains an elaborate central chimney stack and green Westmorland slate roofing. The decorative stone gate piers topped with urn-shaped finials reveal the craftsmanship invested in the original construction details.
