Oxford and Cambridge Club, Private members' club in City of Westminster, England
The Oxford and Cambridge Club is a private members' club for graduates of two old English teaching centers in the City of Westminster. The building shows classical stone facades with tall windows and houses formal dining halls, meeting rooms, and overnight accommodation across several floors.
The foundation took place in 1830 when graduates of both teaching centers sought a shared meeting place in the capital. Robert and Sydney Smirke designed the protected building in classical style, which was later classified as a structure of special architectural interest.
The name links two old English teaching centers and appears in gold lettering above the entrance. Members often wear the dark blue or light blue ties of their alma mater when gathering in the dining halls and lounges.
Entry is granted only to members and their personally invited guests upon presentation of the membership card at reception. The rooms are accessible by stairs and an elevator, with some areas requiring formal attire.
The library holds books donated by members that carry handwritten dedications from previous owners. Some rooms still display the original wood paneling and fireplaces from the construction period in the 19th century.
