Pype Hayes Park

Pype Hayes Park, Public park in Erdington, Birmingham, England

Pype Hayes Park is a 100-acre green space in Erdington featuring ornamental gardens, historic structures, and a pond with waterfowl including Mallard Ducks and Canada Geese. The grounds offer tennis courts, a children's play area, parking, and walking routes that connect different parts of the site.

The park began as the estate of Henry de Pipe, a 14th-century landowner who constructed Pype Hayes Hall and gave his name to the surrounding area. This private manor land eventually became the public green space that exists today.

The park hosted a yearly November celebration with bonfires and fair rides for over 50 years, becoming a gathering point for the local community until funding ended the tradition in 2015. This event shaped how people in the neighborhood experienced and remembered the place.

The park is easy to navigate on foot with clear pathways throughout, and parking is available on site for those arriving by car. The National Cycle Network route 534 passes through, making it accessible for cyclists who want to include the park in their ride.

The park contains two distinct garden areas on opposite ends of the style spectrum: a traditional garden beside the historic hall featuring dwarf yew hedges, and a modern millennium garden showcasing current landscape design trends. Walking between these sections shows the difference between gardening approaches from different eras.
