Southport Promenade Hospital, Grade II listed Victorian hospital building in Southport, England.
Southport Promenade Hospital is a red brick structure built in North German Gothic Revival style with four storeys and distinctive architectural features. The facade displays fifteen bays, two octagonal stair turrets, and crow-stepped gables at both ends, characteristic of Victorian institutional design.
The Southport Strangers Charity established the medical facility in 1806, relocating to this purpose-built structure designed in 1853. The building served its medical function for nearly 140 years until closure and conversion to residential apartments.
This building was a gathering point for the coastal town's medical and social life before it became residential. Its grand architecture once symbolized the community's prosperity and commitment to caring for visitors and residents alike.
The building is now privately owned and contains luxury residential apartments known as Marine Gate Mansions. Visitors can admire the exterior facade from the Promenade and appreciate its striking Victorian design from multiple vantage points.
Rather than being demolished, the building was carefully converted to apartments while preserving its Victorian character and architectural details. This adaptive reuse is uncommon for hospitals of this era, many of which were either torn down or drastically altered.
