Turner Home

Turner Home is a Gothic Revival building in Toxteth, Liverpool, constructed from red sandstone with distinctive tall chimneys and a prominent clock dated 1883 on its front facade. The structure comprises multiple wings spread across the site, with numerous rooms organized to serve different functions and accommodate various needs.

The building was designed in 1884 by architect Alfred Waterhouse as a tribute to Charles Turner, a Liverpool merchant and Member of Parliament. It emerged during a period when such commemorative structures were commonly created in major cities.

The Turner Home operates as a registered care facility, providing specialized nursing and residential services for men with mental health conditions and memory concerns.

The building sits along Dingle Lane where you can view the exterior and grounds from public access points. The architectural details are best observed from the front facade and surrounding areas, particularly during daylight hours when the red sandstone and period features are clearly visible.

Inside the building stands a preserved chapel where services take place twice weekly, featuring a remarkable east window decorated in Perpendicular style. This quiet space within the complex represents a spiritual function that few visitors anticipate when viewing the exterior.
