At 670 meters high, Waun-oer features a trig point on an uneven grassy plateau within the Cadair Idris mountain range.

The mountain became part of Snowdonia National Park when the protected area was established in 1951, marking a milestone for Welsh natural preservation.

Welsh mountaineers regularly include Waun-oer in the Meirionnydd Round, a traditional hiking challenge that connects multiple peaks in the region.

Hikers can reach the summit through marked trails, with the most direct route starting from the parking area near Dolgellau following eastern paths.

The mountain ranks number 98 out of 572 peaks in Snowdonia National Park based on elevation and 58th based on prominence measurements.
