Lindeth Tower, Victorian folly tower in Silverdale, England

This limestone rubble tower rises three stories high with an embattled square design near the shores of Morecambe Bay.

Henry Paul Fleetwood, a Preston banker, constructed this structure in 1842 as part of his coastal estate development project.

Elizabeth Gaskell wrote her novel Ruth while residing in this tower during her visits to Silverdale in the 1840s and 1850s.

The tower stands at coordinates 54.1603°N, 2.8265°W and received Grade II listed building status on May 2, 1968.

The tower served both as a recreational summer house for Victorian leisure activities and as a writing retreat for literary creation.
