Lindeth Tower, Victorian folly tower in Silverdale, England

Lindeth Tower is a three-story limestone structure with a square, crenellated design standing near the shores of Morecambe Bay. The tower displays typical Victorian architecture and forms a distinctive landmark in the Silverdale coastal landscape.

Banker Henry Paul Fleetwood built this tower in 1842 as part of his coastal estate development. The structure was constructed during an era when wealthy businessmen erected such decorative buildings on their properties.

Elizabeth Gaskell wrote her novel Ruth while residing in this tower during her visits to Silverdale in the 1840s and 1850s.

The tower can be viewed from outside and the surrounding area offers coastal paths for exploration. The location is easily accessible via local roads in the area.

Author Elizabeth Gaskell used this location as a writing retreat during her visits to Silverdale in the 1840s and 1850s. She worked on her novel Ruth here, leaving a literary connection to the place.
