Silverdale Hoard, Viking treasure collection in Silverdale, England
The Silverdale Hoard contains over 200 silver artifacts including coins, jewelry, arm rings, and ingots found in Lancashire during 2011.
Metal detectorist Darren Webster discovered this ninth-century collection beneath 16 inches of soil, stored within a lead container during Viking-era conflicts.
The silver pieces display manufacturing techniques from Irish, Anglo-Saxon, and Carolingian societies, representing the diverse influences in medieval Britain.
Lancashire Museums Service maintains the hoard, valued at £110,000, which travels between different exhibition spaces for public viewing.
One coin bears the inscription AIRDECONUT, revealing an unknown Viking ruler and adding fresh knowledge about medieval English governance.
