Hazelwood Hall, 19th-century country house in Silverdale, England.
Hazelwood Hall is a 19th-century country house set on 18.5 acres of woodland with gardens, featuring traditional English architecture with symmetrical bay windows beneath a slate roof. The building now functions as holiday apartments surrounded by walking trails through the surrounding grounds.
The house was built in the first half of the 19th century as a private residence. It became a nursing home in the 1970s before converting to holiday apartments in 2006.
The gardens were designed by landscape architects Thomas Mawson and his son Edward, shaping the grounds with thoughtful planting and layout. Visitors walk through areas planted with different trees and connected by paths that invite exploration.
The grounds can be explored on foot using walking trails that wind through the woods and gardens. It is helpful to wear comfortable shoes and bring weather-appropriate clothing since much of your time will be spent outdoors.
Artist Leonora Carrington visited her relatives frequently after they purchased the house in 1945. Her visits allowed her to experience the creative inspiration offered by the surrounding woodland landscape.
