Bass Maltings, Sleaford, Grade II* listed malt house complex in Sleaford, England
Bass Maltings is a large brick industrial complex in Sleaford featuring eight pavilions arranged around a central square tower. The buildings span considerable length and showcase the layout of a malting factory from the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The complex was built between 1892 and 1905 for a major brewery operator from Burton on Trent. It became the largest malting facility outside of Burton and served as a key production center for the brewing industry.
The complex reflects the importance of grain production and industrial manufacturing to the region during its prosperity. Visitors can still see how the red brick buildings and tower stood as symbols of the area's economic strength in the brewing industry.
The site is visible from the outside but entry is limited. Plan time for a walk around the complex to fully appreciate its scale and layout from different angles.
The site experienced major fires in the late 1960s and mid-1970s that damaged three of the malthouse pavilions and the central tower. These scars remain visible on the structure today.
