Big Muskie, Walking dragline excavator in Morgan County, Ohio, United States.
Big Muskie is a walking dragline excavator in Morgan County, Ohio, once recognized as the largest mobile machine of its kind. The excavator consisted of a multi-story steel frame with a boom and a bucket system capable of moving enormous amounts of earth in a single pass.
The machine was completed in the late 1960s and operated for more than two decades in coal extraction. In the early 1990s it was retired, and only the large bucket was preserved as a reminder of the region's mining history.
The remaining bucket now stands at Miners' Memorial Park in Ohio, serving as a testament to the industrial heritage of coal mining in the southeastern region.
The preserved bucket now stands in a park in the area and can be visited freely. Visitors can walk around it and observe its size up close.
The bucket alone weighed as much as twelve large elephants. When operating, it could move enough earth to fill an Olympic swimming pool every day.
