140 Broadway, Modern skyscraper in Financial District, United States.
140 Broadway is a 52-story modern office tower standing about 210 meters tall with black aluminum facades and bronze-tinted glass windows. The building contains more than a million square feet of office space and houses various financial firms.
The building was completed in 1967 by architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and marked a turning point toward modern corporate architecture in New York's Financial District. It set new standards for large-scale office buildings in the city.
The plaza features a black granite sculpture by Isamu Noguchi that stands out against the white travertine pavement. Visitors can experience how art and modern design come together in everyday public spaces.
The plaza in front of the building is open to the public and offers wide sidewalk spaces for walking and sitting. The interior is typically not freely accessible to visitors without authorization during business hours.
The building occupies only about 40 percent of its plot, creating unusually wide sidewalk spaces in otherwise dense surroundings. This was a deliberate design choice to provide more open air and breathing room in the tightly built Financial District.
