Manhattan University, Private college in Riverdale, The Bronx, United States
Manhattan University is a private Catholic college on a hillside campus in the Riverdale section of the northern Bronx. The grounds cover about 22 acres (9 hectares) with Georgian-style brick buildings, residence halls, and athletic fields set among tree-lined slopes overlooking the Hudson River.
The Lasallian Brothers founded the school in 1853 in lower Manhattan and moved it to the current Riverdale site in 1922. The name remained despite the relocation to the Bronx.
Students at Manhattan College participate in academic research, sports competitions, and community service projects through various student organizations and departments.
The campus sits near Van Cortlandt Park and is reachable by public transport from Manhattan and the northern Bronx. Main buildings spread across a hillside, so expect walkways and stairs between facilities.
The campus occupies a hilltop overlooking the Hudson Valley while the college name refers to its founding site in Manhattan. The layout of the grounds allows for several entrances along Broadway.
