Bobby Mackey's Music World, Honky tonk club in Wilder, Kentucky.
Bobby Mackey's Music World is a country music club in Wilder, a small town in northern Kentucky near the Ohio border. The stage sits centrally in the main room, and the basement preserves an old well from the building's former days as a slaughterhouse.
The building was erected in the early 1800s as a slaughterhouse and later served as an illegal bar during Prohibition. Bobby Mackey purchased the property in 1978 and turned it into a honky tonk club with regular live performances.
Local musicians have played here for decades, creating a gathering point for a community rooted in Appalachian country traditions. The mechanical bull in the main room is often used by patrons who test their skill while other guests cheer them on.
Entry is free for guests over 21 before 9 PM, after which an admission fee applies. On weekends, hourly tours of the building include access to the basement area.
The basement well is over 200 years old and was once part of the slaughterhouse drainage system. Some visitors come specifically because of the stories about unusual occurrences tied to this part of the building.
