Fontbonne University, private university in Clayton, Missouri
Fontbonne University is a private, not-for-profit university in Missouri that focused on personal education and student growth. The campus featured older brick buildings alongside newer facilities across about 16 acres, where small class sizes and close relationships between instructors and students defined the learning experience.
The university was founded in 1923 and originally served to educate women before opening to all students. After more than a century of operation, the institution announced its closure by 2025 due to declining enrollment and financial difficulties.
The university served as a gathering place where students from different backgrounds came together to learn and build connections. Small group interactions and campus events created a sense of belonging for those who studied and worked here.
The campus is located in Saint Louis, Missouri, and is accessible by car or bus with parking and transit stops nearby. The university was compact overall, making it easy for visitors to walk between different buildings and areas.
The university launched a Sprint football team in 2022, a rare format that gave students the chance to play in a smaller league. This program was brief but notable as an attempt to attract new students when enrollment was declining.
