Forest Retreat, Historical residence in Nicholas County, Kentucky, United States

Forest Retreat features a main farmhouse and three additional buildings constructed with traditional architectural elements from the late 18th century.

Governor Thomas Metcalfe, who served Kentucky from 1828 to 1832, constructed this residence in 1795 using his skills as a stonemason.

The property includes the Metcalfe family burial plot, containing the remains of the former governor and Determine, a Kentucky Derby winning horse.

The property currently operates as a bed and breakfast establishment, providing accommodations and event spaces across its 22-acre grounds.

The residence combines the architectural expertise of Thomas Metcalfe with historical significance, earning its place on the National Register of Historic Places.
