Fort Brewerton, Military fort in Brewerton, New York, US.
Fort Brewerton is a military fortification with an eight-pointed star shape protected by a 10-foot (3-meter) moat along the Oneida River. Inside are four L-shaped blockhouses that served as quarters and storage.
The fort was built in 1759 and served as a defense point during the French and Indian War between two other major forts. It helped protect settlers in the region from raids.
The museum inside displays objects from daily 18th-century life, including tools, weapons, and personal items of the people who lived and worked here.
The site is only open to visitors on selected weekends, so it is wise to check the current opening times beforehand. The grounds are easy to walk around and offer shaded spots near the blockhouses for rest.
The fort was originally designed to house 130 soldiers who guarded the powder magazine, food stores, and ammunition. This reveals how concentrated military operations were at this location.
