Fort Ridgely

Fort Ridgely is a military outpost situated on 220 acres overlooking the Minnesota River, where stone foundations and interpretive exhibits remain visible today. The site preserves the physical remains of this frontier installation and shows how the space was organized during the 1800s.

The United States Army established and operated this frontier post from 1851 to 1867 in a strategically important location. The site became central to major conflicts during the Dakota War of 1862, which reshaped the region.

The grounds display evidence of daily life through stone foundations and exhibits showing how soldiers, settlers, and Dakota people coexisted during Minnesota's territorial expansion. Walking through the site, you can sense the complex relationships that shaped this frontier community.
