Fort Ridgely State Park, State park and historic site in Renville and Nicollet Counties, Minnesota, US.
Fort Ridgely State Park is a natural area along the Minnesota River with forests and prairies spanning about 220 acres. The park contains remains of a former military installation and several historic buildings from different periods.
The fort was built in 1853 as a military outpost and played a key role during the conflict between the US Army and Dakota people in 1862. The park was established in 1911 to protect this historical location.
The buildings from the Civilian Conservation Corps era in the 1930s show the construction style that shaped park development during that period. Visitors can still see these substantial wood and stone structures that define the park's appearance today.
The park offers 49 campsites with various options including electrical hookups, showers, and space for tents or RVs. Visitors can also ride horses, hike, and explore the region's natural areas.
A former 9-hole golf course within the park is being restored back to native prairie. This conversion shows how recreation spaces are being returned to their natural state.
