Fort Severn, Naval fort in Annapolis, United States
Located at Windmill Point, Fort Severn featured wooden structures and protected the entrance of Annapolis harbor against potential maritime threats.
The United States Navy acquired Fort Severn in 1845, transforming the military installation into the first location of the United States Naval Academy.
The fort served as an educational center where midshipmen studied mathematics, navigation, gunnery, steam mechanics, chemistry, and languages.
The original wooden buildings of Fort Severn remained functional until 1909, when they underwent demolition for the Naval Academy expansion.
A commemorative plaque installed by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1977 marks the location of the former military fortification.
