Frank B. Kellogg House
Frank B. Kellogg House, National Historic Landmark at Fairmount Avenue, Saint Paul, United States.
The Frank B. Kellogg House is a two-and-a-half-story residence in the Historic Hill area of Saint Paul, constructed with granite, sandstone, and brownstone featuring Queen Anne and Romanesque details. The exterior shows a prominent front entrance and varied window treatments, while the interior contains spacious rooms with high ceilings.
The house was built in the 1880s and served as home to Frank B. Kellogg from 1889 to 1937, a period when he rose to become U.S. Secretary of State. A major expansion was completed in 1923 during the height of his career in Washington.
The house reflects how wealthy families of the late 1800s displayed their status through elaborate rooms and ornate details. The building shows the lifestyle and tastes of the upper class during that period.
The property sits in a historic neighborhood lined with other period homes and is easily accessible by foot along the sidewalk. The corner location on two main streets makes it visible from multiple angles as you approach.
President Calvin Coolidge visited the home in 1923 at a time when Frank B. Kellogg was being recognized for his peace efforts. The house addition completed that same year commemorated this important moment in the residence's story.
