The Alexander Ramsey House spans 11,000 square feet across multiple floors, featuring original marble fireplaces, carved walnut woodwork, and 14,000 period artifacts.
Built between 1868 and 1872, this Second Empire style mansion served as the residence of Alexander Ramsey, the first territorial governor of Minnesota.
The Minnesota Historical Society maintains the house as a museum, preserving the Victorian-era furniture, decorations, and personal items from three generations of the Ramsey family.
Tours of the mansion, located at 265 Exchange Street South, are available throughout the year with admission fees ranging from 8 to 15 dollars.
The house contains two boxcars worth of Renaissance-revival furniture acquired from New York's A.T. Stewart Company Store, selected personally by Anna Ramsey in 1872.
