Rice Park, Urban park in downtown Saint Paul, US
Rice Park spans two acres with a central fountain, sculptures, landscaped gardens, and pathways connecting Market and Washington Streets in downtown Saint Paul.
Henry Mower Rice and John Irvine donated this land to Saint Paul in 1849, making it the first public square before Minnesota achieved statehood.
The park borders four major institutions: the Landmark Center, Saint Paul Hotel, George Latimer Central Library, and Ordway Center for the Performing Arts.
Visitors can reserve the park for events by contacting the Park Permit Office, with Saint Paul residents receiving priority booking starting the first business day of January.
The 2019 renovation introduced LightWave, an LED installation that creates patterns of colored light around the central fountain using Art Nouveau influences.
