Gamecock Cottage, Historic cottage on West Meadow Beach, New York, United States.
Gamecock Cottage is a wooden beach house at the southern end of West Meadow Lane, situated adjacent to a wetlands reserve. The building features a front-gabled roof with a four-sided cupola centered on the ridgeline and measures roughly 20 by 25 feet (6 by 7.6 meters).
The structure was built in 1876 as a storage house for oars and sliding-seat rowboats used by the local community. It gained National Register status in 2007 and remains the last wooden building from the original West Meadow Beach development.
The cottage shows how people lived and spent leisure time at the Suffolk County coast in the late 1800s. Its design and condition reflect the building practices of that seaside community.
The cottage can be viewed from the outside, though interior access is currently not available to visitors. The location is exposed to the weather, so visiting on calm days provides better viewing conditions and easier walking.
The house retains its original board-and-batten siding and Gothic Revival design details. This combination of period materials and historical styling makes it an unusual surviving example of 19th-century American seaside construction methods.
