Gompers School, Schule in den Vereinigten Staaten

Gompers School is a four-story brick school building in Baltimore, Maryland, constructed in 1905 with Classical Revival architectural features. The structure has a rectangular shape with large windows and classrooms arranged around a central courtyard, allowing natural light and airflow throughout the interior.

Built in 1905, the school replaced a smaller institution called Eastern Female High School as Baltimore invested in improving its education system. It was renamed Gompers School in 1950 to honor labor movement leader Samuel Gompers and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The school is named after Samuel Gompers, a labor movement leader, reflecting the community's belief in education as a path to progress. Its layout with classrooms arranged around a central courtyard was designed to create an open, welcoming space for learning.

The building is easily spotted at the corner of Broadway and East North Avenue in Baltimore and is accessible on foot from nearby streets. Since it is no longer used as an active school, check ahead for current access information or guided tour availability before planning your visit.

The building was designed with special fire safety features, and shortly after its completion in 1906, a major fire in Baltimore underscored the importance of such precautions. This early focus on safety made it a pioneer in school construction methods of its era.
