Hawk's Nest, New York, Mountain overlook in Deerpark, United States.
Hawk's Nest is a mountain overlook along Route 97 in New York State. The winding road runs beside the Delaware River at about 1,000 feet (300 m) elevation and offers views across the valley and water below.
The original road began as a construction project in 1876 to cut a mountain passage through the landscape. This engineering effort created one of the area's first major transportation routes.
The river valley draws photographers and artists who capture the natural curves of the road and water. They come here to record the changing light and landscape throughout the day.
Several paved viewing areas provide safe stops for vehicles along the route. Visiting during clear weather gives the best views across the river valley.
Birds of prey nest in the rocky outcrops along this section of Route 97, which inspired the location's name. Visitors who look carefully can sometimes spot these birds hunting over the valley.
