Barryville–Shohola Bridge, Road bridge between Barryville and Shohola, United States
The Barryville-Shohola Bridge connects Barryville in New York with Shohola in Pennsylvania across the Delaware River. The structure carries traffic between New York State Route 55 and Pennsylvania Route 434 with a design that allows vehicles to cross safely between the two states.
Bridge crossings have stood at this location since 1856 to carry traffic across the Delaware River. The current structure was completed in 2007 and replaced several earlier versions of this important regional connection.
The bridge location served as a natural crossing point for Lenni Lenape Native Americans, who inhabited the area from approximately 10,900 BCE.
The bridge provides two travel lanes and a shoulder for regular traffic flow across the river. When crossing, you will notice clear road markings that guide vehicles through the structure safely.
Prehistoric artifacts were discovered in the riverbed during construction work on the structure. These findings show that people have used this river crossing for many centuries.
