Zane Grey Museum, Historical museum in Lackawaxen Township, Pennsylvania, United States
The Zane Grey Museum is a two-story wood-frame house with a wraparound porch built on a bluestone foundation, set above the Delaware River in Lackawaxen Township, Pennsylvania. Inside, several rooms display photographs, manuscripts, and original furnishings from Grey's personal collection.
The house was built in 1905 and expanded in 1912 as Grey's writing career grew. He left for California in 1918, and the property has since been preserved as a record of his most productive years.
The house displays personal belongings, manuscripts, and photographs from Grey's life as a writer. Visitors can walk through the rooms where he worked, which gives a direct sense of how he spent his days.
The museum is open seasonally, mainly from May through September, so it is worth checking ahead before planning a visit outside that period. The riverside location can bring changing weather, so wearing layers is a good idea.
The site is an official cancellation location for the Passport to Your National Parks program, making it a stop for collectors of that travel stamp series. Visitors who come during winter months also have a good chance of spotting bald eagles along the Delaware River nearby.
