House Mountain

House Mountain is a peak in Knox County with an elevation of 2,100 feet and steep slopes covered in dense forests of oak, hickory, and pine. Multiple trail routes wind through different sections of the wooded terrain.

The mountain formed millions of years ago during the Appalachian orogeny, creating the distinct geological features visible in its rock formations. This ancient geological process shaped the ridge structures seen today.

Local outdoor clubs regularly organize group hikes to the summit, establishing House Mountain as a central location for nature education programs.

The trail system covers both north and south sections and requires sturdy footwear and water supplies for the rocky terrain. Visitors should prepare for longer hikes and steep conditions.

From the summit, visitors can observe the parallel ridges of the Valley and Ridge Province stretching from northeast to southwest across eastern Tennessee. This geological arrangement offers insight into the region's Appalachian structure.
