The InterContinental New York Barclay Hotel is a classic early 20th-century building on East 48th Street in Midtown Manhattan, a few blocks from Park Avenue. The hotel has several hundred guest rooms spread across many floors, and its lobby features high ceilings, marble floors, and ornate plasterwork.
The hotel opened in 1926 and was built to serve wealthy travelers and business guests visiting Midtown Manhattan. Over the following decades it changed hands several times and went through major renovations before joining the InterContinental brand.
The hotel sits close to Grand Central Terminal and has long served as a meeting point for business travelers passing through New York. The lobby still displays original murals depicting scenes from New York City life, giving the space a sense of local character.
