The church stands at Front and Allen Streets in the Northern Liberties district, featuring a central dome adorned with Venetian glass tiles containing 22-karat gold.
Founded in 1869 under Bishop James Frederick Wood, the church emerged twenty-five years after two nearby Catholic parishes were destroyed in religious conflicts.
The church became a worship site of St. Michael's parish in 2011 after serving as an independent parish for more than 140 years.
Weekly virtual rosary sessions occur every Thursday at 7 pm through Zoom, allowing community members to participate in prayer from remote locations.
The building closed permanently in December 2019, marked by a final prayer service on December 8, coinciding with the anniversary of its dedication.
