Benjamin Franklin Bridge, Suspension bridge between Philadelphia and Camden, United States.
The Benjamin Franklin Bridge is a steel suspension crossing over the Delaware River linking Philadelphia in Pennsylvania with Camden in New Jersey. The structure carries multiple traffic lanes, PATCO rail tracks, and separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists.
The crossing opened in 1926 and held the world record for the longest suspension span at 533 meters. It retained this distinction for three years before being surpassed by other structures.
The crossing honors statesman and inventor Benjamin Franklin, whose legacy remains deeply rooted in Philadelphia. Many cyclists and walkers use the dedicated path to commute or simply enjoy the river views from above.
The crossing offers toll lanes for vehicles heading westbound into Pennsylvania while the opposite direction remains free of charge. Pedestrians and cyclists can access the path during daylight hours when conditions permit.
More than 100,000 vehicles cross the river here every day, making this one of the busiest connections between the two states. The Delaware River Port Authority monitors traffic flow and collects tolls to fund ongoing maintenance of the steel structure.
