Knightstown Academy, School building and National Historic Landmark in Knightstown, Indiana.
Knightstown Academy is a Second Empire style school building in Indiana located north of the National Road. The structure features a mansard roof with twin four-story towers topped respectively by a telescope and a globe.
The building was constructed in 1876 as a Quaker Academy under architect John A. Hasecoster. It subsequently served as the town's public high school for an extended period.
The school embodied Quaker educational values that shaped students across generations in the region. Visitors can sense this heritage through the building's design and its role in the community's development.
The building stands today as a registered historic place and functions as an apartment building. Visitors can admire the exterior architecture from Washington Street, where the distinctive towers and their decorative tops are most visible.
The attached gymnasium served as the filming location for the Hickory Huskers' home court in the 1985 film Hoosiers. Movie enthusiasts may recognize the setting when recalling the film's celebrated basketball scenes.
