Lake Loramie State Park, State park with lakefront camping in Shelby County, United States.
Lake Loramie State Park is a recreation area built around a large reservoir with walking trails, boat access, and a sandy beach. The park spans several hundred acres and offers different ways to enjoy water and nature throughout the grounds.
The water was dammed in the early 1800s to support an old transport route. The land was later changed into a public park so people could enjoy outdoor recreation and rest.
The park is named after Pierre-Louis de Lorimier, a French-Canadian trader who established a post here for commerce with local people. His name marks a time when this location served as a meeting point for exchange between newcomers and indigenous nations.
The park has a large camping area with spots for recreational vehicles and tents, all with basic facilities. Visitors should allow enough time depending on the season and the activities they want to do, since the grounds cover a wide area.
The grounds are home to an unusual collection of cypress and sweet gum trees that have been growing there for decades. These plants are not typical of this northern region, which gives the park a distinct botanical character.
