Landing Apartments
Landing Apartments, Historic residential building in Dayton, United States.
Landing Apartments is a residential building in downtown Dayton, Ohio, showcasing Italian Renaissance elements mixed with Late 19th Century Revival details. The multi-story structure retains its original construction with rooms arranged to support both living spaces and community functions.
Originally built in 1929 as the Dayton YMCA, the building served the community as a gathering place. It was later transformed into apartments and earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 for its architectural worth.
The design by architects Schenck & Williams brings together Italian Renaissance style with spaces built for gathering and learning. People walking through can still sense how the building served both as a home and a social center.
The building sits in downtown Dayton and is easy to reach on foot. Keep in mind that it is an active residential building, so respect the privacy of the people who live there during your visit.
This building did not start as apartments but began its life in 1929 as a YMCA with public facilities for the community. Its transformation into residential use shows how historic structures find new purposes while keeping their original character.
