Sacred Heart Church

The limestone structure features an octagonal Baroque dome, glazed cupola, rounded arches, and ornate stonework details on the exterior walls.

The cornerstone was laid by Archbishop William Henry Elder in 1888, and the building was consecrated by Bishop Camillus Maes in November 1895.

The church reopened in 2001 to serve a Vietnamese Catholic congregation after being closed in 1996, marking a shift in local demographics.

Located at 217 West Fourth Street in Dayton, the church building received National Register of Historic Places designation on October 22, 1987.

The construction cost of $100,000 in the 1890s funded the creation of intricate sandstone and copper elements throughout the building.
