Dayton Art Institute, Art museum in Dayton, United States
The Dayton Art Institute is an art museum housed in a Renaissance-style building that sits on a hill overlooking downtown. It provides exhibition spaces filled with works ranging from ancient times to contemporary art.
A major financial gift in 1928 made possible the construction of this cultural center, which began collecting art from its inception. The building and its collections developed together into what is now recognized as a significant art museum.
The building honors its founder and displays works that bring together both major names in art history and regional creators side by side. Visitors see pieces from different periods and places displayed in connection with one another.
The museum is located at Forest and Riverview Avenues and is easy to reach. Visitors can enjoy guided tours, educational programs, and regularly changing exhibitions offered throughout the year.
The architecture was inspired by two Italian palaces built during the Renaissance. This European architectural style was brought directly to the heart of Ohio in this way.
