Colonel Josiah Hasbrouck, who served in the Ulster County Militia during the Revolutionary War, built this Federal-style mansion in 1814. The building dates to the early years of the United States as an independent nation and reflects the architectural tastes of that era.

The estate holds handcrafted objects from five generations of the Hasbrouck family, including furniture, clothing, and decorative items from the early 1800s. These collections show how a wealthy family lived here during that time and what they valued.

The mansion is open for guided tours during the warmer months and requires advance reservations to visit. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the grounds are extensive and involve walking over uneven terrain.

The mansion deliberately lacks modern heating, plumbing, or electrical systems, preserving its authentic 19th-century setup. This original configuration allows visitors to experience directly how people actually lived during that time.
