Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, National Recreation Trail in Ulster County, New York, United States.
Wallkill Valley Rail Trail is a 22-mile (35 km) gravel path through woods, fields, and farmland between Kingston and Gardiner in Ulster County. The route follows the former railroad corridor and offers a continuous way away from road traffic.
The Wallkill Valley Railroad stopped running in 1977, and crews removed the tracks in 1983. The Wallkill Valley Land Trust bought the corridor in 1991 and opened sections to the public step by step.
The path passes through farmland worked by families for generations. Roadside stands sell pumpkins and fresh cider in autumn.
The route suits walking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing in winter. Several access points with parking sit between Kingston and Gardiner.
The Rosendale trestle spans 940 feet (286 m) and stands 150 feet (46 m) above Rondout Creek. From there you can see in all directions toward the hills of the Hudson Valley.
