Carmine Liberta Bridge, Steel truss bridge in New Paltz, United States.
Carmine Liberta Bridge is a steel truss structure that crosses the Wallkill River and links New Paltz town with its village center via a two-lane roadway. The bridge measures about 175 feet and serves both vehicular traffic and pedestrian access alongside the road.
The current structure is the fourth bridge at this crossing, completed in 2016 to replace the earlier steel version from 1940. The site previously held a wooden covered bridge dating to 1845 and an iron construction from 1891.
The name honors Carmine Liberta, a Korean War veteran who spent his life supporting fellow veterans and serving the community. It reflects the area's appreciation for those dedicated to public welfare.
An illuminated walkway about 6 feet wide on the north side provides safe passage and connects to local bike routes. This path also links to the River-to-Ridge Trail system, making it part of a larger recreational network.
The north side features an observation deck that provides open views of the Shawangunk Ridge. The lower arch design without overhead structural members allows these unobstructed sight lines across the landscape.
